A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Vittorio Gallo at the Center for Neuroscience Research (CNR) of Children’s National Hospital in Washington D.C. The CNR is a very collegial and highly interactive environment. The Gallo lab studies neural progenitor cell development and cell repair after injury. For this project, we are seeking to define the electrophysiological properties of different neural progenitor subtypes during development and during cell repair after injury. Methods to be used include patch-clamp electrophysiology, mouse genetics, histology and immunohistochemistry in brain slices and in cultured cells.
Anticipated Appointment Start Date: On or after December 1st, 2021.
Qualifications: The qualified candidate should have received a Ph.D. in Neuroscience/Pharmacology or a related field in the basic sciences, or be currently pursuing a degree, and will reach completion by the appointment start date. A background in patch-clamp electrophysiology, with experience in confocal or multiphoton imaging is desired.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in electrophysiology (whole-cell patch-clamp and electrical stimulation/recording)
- Experience in pharmacological and/or genetic manipulation
- Willingness to learn new techniques and methods
To Apply: Email a curriculum vitae and contact information for three references to vgallo@childrensnational.org. This is a 4-year fully funded project with the possibility of 2 additional years.
