The Department of Health & Kinesiology in the College of Health at the University of Utah invites applications for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor. Candidates should possess a quality track record of peer reviewed publications and the potential to garner external funding. Individuals with research experience in the areas of neuromechanics, motor control, or the neural control of movement are strongly encouraged to apply, but all individuals with research experience in fields related to human movement science will be considered. There are existing opportunities for collaboration within the Department and College, the greater University of Utah Health Sciences Center, as well as on the University of Utah main campus. 

The Department of Health & Kinesiology, is one of six departments (Physical Therapy and Athletic Training, Nutrition and Integrative Physiology, Occupational and Recreational Therapies, Parks, Recreation, and Tourism, and Speech Communication Disorders) in the College of Health, which is one of five components in the Health Sciences Center at the University of Utah (along with the School of Medicine, College of Pharmacy, College of Nursing, and College of Dentistry). Health & Kinesiology has approximately 1200 undergraduate students and 50 graduate students (Masters and Doctoral).

Located on the northeastern edge of Salt Lake City, our 1,500 acre campus reaches to the foothills of the majestic Wasatch Mountains. Over 30,000 students represent all 50 states and many foreign countries. More than 2,000 clinical, adjunct, research, and visiting faculty serve the student body.

Utah is the west at its best! The Salt Lake City region has four distinct seasons, ready access to all outdoor activities including superb skiing at eight world-famous resorts just minutes from campus. The Salt Lake City International Airport is a Delta hub with direct flights to most major US markets and numerous international cities. The Salt Lake City/Provo/Ogden metropolitan area has a population of nearly 2.5 million people, and is the vibrant hub of the intermountain west. Eight National Parks are within a 5-hour drive from Salt Lake City.

APPOINTMENT

Tenure Track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor.

Primary responsibilities include:

•               Develop and maintain a scholarly research program that will augment research strengths in the department and collaborations across the University of Utah

•               Seek and obtain external funding

•               Recruit, advise, and mentor master’s, and doctoral (PhD) students

•               Teach in area of expertise within the Health & Kinesiology program, specifically related to neuromechanics, motor control, or movement science

•               Perform service as appropriate to the department, college, university, profession, and community

•               Aid in the program, department, college and university’s commitment for inclusive excellence. We value candidates who have experience working in settings with students from diverse backgrounds, and possess a strong commitment to improving access to higher education for historically underrepresented students

Degree requirement:

•               Applicants should have an earned, relevant academic doctoral degree prior to the start of the appointment

Minimum qualifications:

•               Show evidence of significant scholarly accomplishment

•               Conduct research that has substantial potential for acquiring external funding

•               Proficiency in college-level teaching

Desired qualifications:

•               Postdoctoral training experience, if no prior experience as faculty member
