The Translational Neurovascular Research Lab of Neel Singhal is seeking an independent, highly-motivated PhD-level scientist with a strong background in cell biology, genetics, and/or neuroscience techniques to join several new projects funded by American Heart Association and Veterans Affairs grants. We work closely with Dr. Raymond Swanson's laboratory as well as the lab of Dr. Dengke Ma at the Cardiovascular Research Institute. On-going projects include: 1) Evaluating mitochondrial physiology and bioenergetics in CRISPR edited resilient or vulnerable cell lines; 2) Characterizing novel neuronal phenotypes in known genetic variants influencing stroke outcomes, and 3) Examining newly identified neuroprotective candidates in an in vivo stroke model.

Dr. Singhal’s laboratory at University of California- San Francisco and the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center is located on the UCSF-Mission Bay Campus. We are dedicated to finding new mechanisms of neurovascular protection using genetics as a guide. We have successfully used genetic screens and CRISPR gene-editing methods to identify novel neuroprotective candidates. We are building a new research program and value an inclusive scholarly environment. Dr. Singhal is a neurologist and neurointensivist at UCSF and San Francisco General Hospital and opportunities for translational research projects are anticipated.

The successful candidate will be appointed to UCSF and/or the San Francisco VA. We collaborate will several labs on the UCSF campus including clinicians and scientists. The environment at UCSF provides access to amazing colleagues and tremendous facilities. The candidate will learn cutting edge skills that will help launch an independent career.
