The Heys lab in the Department of Neurobiology at the University of Utah is looking to hire a postdoc for a NIH funded project focused on the synaptic and circuit mechanisms underlying temporal memory and interval timing (i.e. how the brain encodes time on the scale of seconds to minutes). This is an exceptional opportunity for a candidate to lead a team through innovative science and build a research program that can launch their independent career. 

This position offers the chance to learn and apply cutting-edge in vivo two-photon imaging methods for application in deep brain structures (see Heys et al. 2014 and Heys and Dombeck, 2018). The candidate leading this project will also gain support from a senior research scientist in order to further drive wet-lab experiments and a data scientist to provide additional assistance for computational modeling and data analysis.

This position will be funded through an NIH New Innovator Grant that was recently awarded to the Heys Lab, and will provide funds for 3-5 years. Salary will be commensurate with experience, and highly competitive for postdoctoral researchers. The ideal candidate should have a PhD in Neuroscience or related discipline. Previous experience with electrophysiology, light-microscopy and/or animal behavior is preferred. Also, candidates with technical backgrounds including electronics engineering, computer science, or physics are encouraged to apply.
