Deputy Director, National Institute on Aging (NIA), National Institutes of Health (NIH) The NIH is the center of medical and behavioral research for the Nation ----making essential medical discoveries that improve health and save lives. Are you an exceptional candidate able to provide leadership to one of the preeminent institutions in the world for aging research? The Deputy Director position at the National Institute on Aging (NIA) offers an exciting opportunity to serve as the second-in-command to the NIA Director in the scientific and managerial leadership of the Institute.  The NIA, one of the 27 Institutes and Centers of NIH, leads broad scientific and research efforts to understand the nature of aging, aging processes, diseases and conditions associated with the nature of aging and extending healthy active years of life. The NIA is the primary federal agency responsible for research on Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. As an Institute leader, incumbent will serve as an ambassador and spokesperson for the NIA in many capacities including, but not limited to, collaborating with stakeholders and organizations across the nation and worldwide to advance the NIA mission, facilitating the identification and development of current and future leaders, serving as a role model in managing staff and financial resources with integrity and fairness, and ensuring compliance with Institute and federal policies and priorities. The NIA is seeking applicants with a commitment to scientific excellence and the energy, enthusiasm, and innovative thinking necessary to lead a dynamic and diverse organization.  Applicants must possess the following qualifications: a M.D. and/or Ph.D.; senior-level research experience and knowledge of research programs in one or more scientific areas related to aging research; and recognition and respect within their profession, both nationally and internationally, as individuals of outstanding scientific competence. In addition, candidates must have demonstrated ability in: 1) planning, implementing, and analyzing program objectives and priorities, 2) managing financial and human resources, and 3) leading a research program involving extensive internal and external collaboration. The successful candidate for this position will be appointed at a salary commensurate with qualifications and experience and a full federal benefits package will be provided.
