Postdoctoral Scholar Research

Department Number/Name: 0-6144-000 / Molecular Medicine
College/ Division: USF Health- Morsani College of Medicine
Salary Plan: Temporary
Hiring Salary/Salary Range: $47,659 - $65,292 annual

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Dharap laboratory in the Department of Molecular Medicine and Byrd Alzheimer’s Center has multiple openings for postdoctoral researchers to investigate the roles of noncoding RNAs and novel mRNA splice variants in modulating brain pathophysiology in ischemic stroke. We are an NIH-funded lab with a stimulating and supportive scientific environment, and modern facilities and instrumentation. We use rodent experimental models, mammalian cell culture, and a wide array of techniques such as deep sequencing, real-time PCR, reporter assays, immunoblotting, IHC/ICC, RIP, ChIP, FISH, gene knockdown, and bioinformatics. We seek a self-motivated and creative individual who is proficient in the theoretical and practical aspects of molecular biology, biochemistry and cell biology. A background in RNA biology is a plus, and experience with rodent models of stroke (especially MCAO surgery) is highly desirable, but not required; however, the candidate will be expected to learn the MCAO surgical technique. In addition to the tools and training provided in the lab, we highly encourage lab members to explore and introduce new techniques to the lab as needed to tackle the research questions at hand. We aim to provide every lab member with focused mentoring, and training to develop fellowship applications as part of their career development plan. To learn more about our research, please visit www.dharaplab.com

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or MD. Ph.D. in a related field from an accredited institution.  Must meet university criteria for appointment at the rank of Postdoctoral Fellow.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A background in RNA biology and stroke/vascular biology will be given preference. Experience in molecular biology, biochemistry and rodent MCAO surgery is a plus.
