The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is recruiting a scholar for a tenure track position beginning on September 1, 2021. Applicants will be considered for the faculty titles of assistant, associate, or full professor. The successful candidate should have expertise in areas related to rehabilitation sciences in the pediatric population. These may include the following: upper extremity function, neuromotor recovery, neuromodulation, and motor control abnormalities secondary to brain injury or disease.

Applicants should have a demonstrated ability to develop and lead a program of research in motor control, neuromodulation in the pediatric population.  Successful candidate will be expected to build a robustly funded program of research at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Individuals will be expected to develop an independent, externally funded research program but opportunities to collaborate with faculty members within various departments and divisions across the University, the O’Donnell Brain Institute, and the Children’s Health Systems of Texas (CHST) are anticipated. The successful candidate will also be involved in the mentoring and assisting trainees including pediatric subspecialty residents and fellows, doctoral students, and post-doctoral fellows in research development.

The O’Donnell Brain Institute offers a unique environment for successful research development given their robust patient populations appropriate for this direction of research, strong clinical presence across pediatric subspecialties, and history of collaboration in the areas of central nervous system disease, acquired brain injury, stroke, and upper extremity rehabilitation.

Children’s Health Systems of Texas (CHST) is the 7th largest pediatric provider system in the nation with over 600 licensed beds and over 800,000 patient visits annually.  CHST provides access to their advanced radiologic/imaging resources including MRI, fMR, MEG, SPECT, and DTI, and the Analytical Imaging and Modeling Center.

UT Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW) is ranked #1 in the DFW area for clinical care with existing and research laboratory space dedicated to rehabilitation research in neurophysiology, neuromodulation, and motor control.  UTSW offers use of the Advanced Imaging Resource Center, and UTSW is uniquely positioned to be at the forefront of research in pediatric upper extremity neuromotor recovery due to its close clinical and academic relationship with CHST’s divisions of pediatric rehabilitation medicine and pediatric neurology. Opportunities for internal financial support exist through the UTSW Endowed Scholars Program and the Disease Oriented Clinical Scholars Program.

Qualifications: The position requires a doctorate in medicine, therapy, or PhD from an accredited university and relevant experience.  Preferably, the candidate will have 3-5 years’ experience. Consideration may be given to applicants seeking less than a full time schedule.

Duties include: Generate research studies, projects, and secure funding in areas of upper extremity function, neuromotor recovery, neuromodulation, and motor control abnormalities secondary to brain injury or disease.

Appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience.
