The Institute of Child Development at the University of Minnesota seeks outstanding candidates for a tenure-track position in developmental psychopathology at the Assistant Professor level. We welcome applications from individuals conducting research in any area of developmental psychopathology, including but not limited to: prevention/intervention sciences; health and opportunity disparities; risk and trauma; family, community, and global contexts; culture and psychopathology; stress and adaptation; socioemotional and/or neurocognitive functioning and mental health; and resilience and positive youth development.  Our department values a wide range of methods and approaches, including epidemiologic, genetic, epigenetic, neurobiological, sociocultural, translational, computational, qualitative, big-data, and community engaged research. Similarly, skills in advanced developmental research methods and/or statistical expertise are of interest. All applicants are expected to have a strong and fundable program of research and to contribute to both graduate and undergraduate supervision and instruction in developmental psychology/developmental psychopathology. A clear developmental orientation to research and teaching is required.  ICD is committed to building and supporting a culturally diverse faculty and strongly encourages applications from minority candidates and other under-represented groups.

Research: Developing and maintaining a strong record of scholarship pertinent to the core specialization of the position, while maintaining a commitment to securing external funds to support the individual’s scholarly inquiry.

Teaching and Advising: Strengthening the existing preparation and further development of undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral students in ICD. Teaching and advising students in the graduate and undergraduate degree programs in the department. Participating in postdoctoral student training and advising. 

Service, Including Community Engagement: Participating in College, University, and other outreach activities, including service on internal committees or task forces, and participation in relevant professional organizations.

Appointment Details: The successful candidate will be appointed to a full-time, 9-month tenure-track assistant professorship beginning Fall semester 2022.  Summer employment may be possible but is not guaranteed. Salaries are competitive and commensurate with experience.

Minimum qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate (or its equivalent) in psychology, clinical psychology, developmental psychology or a closely related field. Applications from ABD candidates will be considered provided the individual can document that he or she is on track to complete the doctorate by the start date of this position.
  • Evidence of strong scholarship in the form of publications in peer-reviewed journals and a history of conference presentations, commensurate with the level of experience.

Preferred qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate (or its equivalent) in clinical psychology
  • Proven record of success in procuring external funding, commensurate with the level of experience.
  • Evidence of successful teaching and academic program development at the undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral levels, commensurate with the level of experience.
  • Proven record in advising undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral students, commensurate with the level of experience.
  • Evidence of community engagement/service activities suitable to a tenure-track position at a major land-grant University, commensurate with the level of experience.
