Job Details

The Stowers Institute for Medical Research invites innovative early career scientists in the Life Sciences to apply for an Assistant Investigator position in 2022.

Research programs of interest include, but are not limited to biochemistry, biophysics, genetics, neuroscience, cell biology, genomics, epigenetics, evolution, quantitative biology, and synthetic biology. Our interests run the gamut of experimental organisms and approaches.

The successful candidate is expected to develop a groundbreaking, innovative, and independent research program and will benefit from and complement the Institute’s existing strengths in genetics, developmental/regenerative biology, evolution, biochemistry, and neuroscience. The candidate may also take advantage of exceptional core facilities and technology centers staffed by over 100 scientists, as well as multiple opportunities to be involved in the Institute’s Graduate School program.

Positions at the Institute are exceptional in that they are fully funded throughout the candidate’s appointment. This includes $600,000 per year for research funding and full salary support, in addition to start-up funds and ongoing needs for equipment. The initial appointment is for 7 years and is then subject to renewal every 6 to 7 years. In total, the package for an Assistant Investigator position is more than $4.2 million over the first term and increases significantly after promotion.

Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent and postdoctoral experience demonstrating innovation and excellence in their field. Candidates are expected to possess a long-term vision of their scientific interests and to actively contribute to the Institute’s mission and collegiality.

The deadline for applications is November 1, 2021. Applicants should submit a cover letter, a CV, a research plan, and vision statement, and arrange for the submission of three reference letters through our application site at: http://www.stowers.org/facultysearch.

Questions should be directed to the Search Committee Chair, Dr. Kausik Si (facultysearch@stowers.org).

The Stowers Institute for Medical Research is proud to be an equal opportunity employer and is committed to creating an inclusive environment where innovation can thrive. All qualified applicants will be considered regardless of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, age, or disability.

Company

About the Stowers Institute for Medical Research The Stowers Institute for Medical Research is a world-class basic biomedical research organization focused on improving our understanding of fundamental mechanisms of biology and using this knowledge to guide the development of innovative treatments to improve human health. Our dedicated scientists collaborate across a variety of disciplines, studying many different aspects of health and disease. A primary goal of our research is to understand the principles that guide the function and behavior of living organisms and individual cells. Discoveries resulting from this kind of research often prove to be major milestones along the path toward novel therapies and cures. Jim Stowers, founder of American Century Investments, and his wife, Virginia, opened the Institute in 2000. Currently, the Institute is home to about 500 researchers and support personnel, over 20 independent research programs, and more than a dozen technology development, core and support facilities. In 2012, the Institute welcomed the first class of predoctoral researchers into The Graduate School of the Stowers Institute (GSSIMR).
