Salary
NIH scale
Closing date

Applications are now being accepted for an NIH-funded Postdoctoral Fellow to explore neocortical synaptic connectivity and neuromodulation in the Department of Molecular and Systems Biology at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College. Using rodent models and a variety of technical approaches (including optogenetics, electrophysiology, synaptic mapping, imaging, genetic models, computational simulations, and pharmacology), we are determining the selective connectivity and neuromodulation of excitatory cortical circuits.

As a Postdoctoral Fellow, you will be a lead project scientist working closely with the PI to design and perform experiments that test hypotheses about the structure and function of excitatory circuits within the neocortex and among cortical and subcortical brain areas. In addition to contributing to our funded projects, lab members are strongly encouraged to explore and develop new avenues of research using creative approaches that expand our knowledge of brain physiology. The PI is committed to mentoring lab members to achieve their professional and career aspirations within or outside of academia, and encourages participation in professional development programs and activities.

Successful applicants will have (1) a PhD in neuroscience or a related discipline, (2) working expertise in at least some of the above-mentioned experimental approaches, (3) motivation to learn new experimental approaches, (4) the ability to function independently and as part of a dynamic research team, and (5) commitment toward achieving scientific and career excellence.

Located in rural New England, Dartmouth College provides a very collaborative research environment with close proximity of neuroscience laboratories from the Arts and Sciences (e.g., Biological Sciences, Psychological and Brain Sciences) and the Geisel School of Medicine. Dartmouth’s campus is located at the intersection of the Connecticut river and the Appalachian trail, and combines four-seasons of outdoor activities in an idyllic small-town environment with a world-class university and medical center.

Applicants should send a cover letter describing their research experience and interests, a CV, and contact information for three referees to Dr. Allan Gulledge (allan@dartmouth.edu). The Geisel School of Medicine and Dartmouth College are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive community that promotes collaboration among trainees, faculty, and staff from all backgrounds. Applicants are expected to advance Dartmouth’s commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion through their research, service, and/or life experiences.
