The Garrett lab in the Department of Pharmacology and Department of Ophthalmology, Visual and Anatomical Sciences (OVAS) at Wayne State University is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to study neural circuit formation in the retina. We are interested in the role of cell adhesion and neuronal self-avoidance in the developing mouse retina, focusing on two families of cell adhesion molecules: the clustered protocadherins and DSCAMs. The successful applicant will join a supportive research environment with the opportunity to build on his or her existing skills. We use a variety of techniques including mouse genetics and genomics, electroporation and viral gene delivery, primary neuronal culture, and microscopy. Visit https://www.garrett-lab.org/ to learn more about our lab. Salary and benefits will follow the NIH scale (benefits described at https://hr.wayne.edu/tcw/benefits). While the position is funded, the PI will mentor the postdoctoral fellow in writing and applying for additional support.
The Departments of Pharmacology and OVAS include faculty members using a variety of model systems in the disciplines of neuroscience, retinal biology, cancer biology, and environmental toxicology. The Garrett lab is a cooperative environment with ongoing collaborations with members of both departments. Wayne State University is a premier public research university located in midtown Detroit, offering a host of career development opportunities for postdoctoral researchers (https://gradschool.wayne.edu/postdocs/career).
Highly motivated applicants with a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Genetics, or related disciplines are encouraged to apply. Send a cover letter describing research experience and interests along with a C.V. and contact information for three letters of reference to andrew.garrett@wayne.edu.
