The Auerbach lab (auerbachlab.org) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on projects studying the synaptic and circuit mechanisms underlying auditory perception, experience-dependent plasticity, and perceptual impairments associated with hearing loss and neurodevelopmental disorders. The studies will involve a variety of approaches and tools including in vivo multichannel extracellular electrophysiology, innate and operant perceptual decision-making tasks, optogenetics, chemogenetics, stereotactic intracranial surgeries, ex vivo slice electrophysiology, calcium imaging, and novel transgenic rat models.

We are excited for motivated, independent scientists to join our research group. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Physiology, Neurobiology, Bioengineering, or a related discipline. Candidates close to defending the Ph.D. dissertation will be considered. Candidates with experience in in vivo or ex vivo electrophysiology, in vivo calcium imaging, and/or rodent behavior are highly desired. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both individually and as part of a team are required. Competitive candidates will have at least one first-author publication.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications and in accordance with current NIH funding levels. The position is on a yearly basis, with NIH and other funding available for at least 3 years.
