Postdoctoral Fellow – Vulnerability in Neurodegenerative Disease

The Henderson Neurodegenerative Disease Lab, in the Department of Neurodegenerative Science at the Van Andel Institute, is currently expanding our thriving research team for the study of neurodegenerative diseases. We are currently hiring a Postdoctoral Fellow to join the lab. We utilize cell and animal models of neurodegenerative disease to explore the underlying cause of disease and develop therapeutics for treatment. As a Postdoctoral Fellow, you will lead a funded research project aimed at understanding cell and circuit-level vulnerability to Parkinson’s disease.

Roles: A Postdoc is a leader in the laboratory. You will take a leading role on this important project, including performing experiments, analyzing data and preparing manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Henderson will support you in your studies and prepare you for advancement to academic, pharmaceutical or other careers. VAI has excellent institutional cores and career training opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • D. or M.D./Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Neuroscience, or a related field
  • A track record of rigorous, high-impact research

Desired Skills - In addition to a responsible and collaborative ethos, you should possess a strong background in:

  • Neuroscience
  • Histology
  • Animal research
  • Microscopy
  • Oral and written communication

Position Status and Salary: Full-time, non-exempt position.  Salary determined based on PhD/MD receipt date according to a set stipend schedule, which begins at $55,000 and increases annually with satisfactory performance. Applicants with exceptional qualifications may be considered for salaries above the minimum.
