Job Details

The laboratory of Dr. Peng Li at the University of Michigan Life Sciences Institute is seeking postdoctoral fellows to study the neural control circuitry of breathing and how it fails in pathological conditions in mouse models.

The Life Sciences Institute (LSI) at the University of Michigan is currently home to 23 faculty members in the disciplines of neuroscience, physiology, genetics, cell biology, chemical biology, and structural biology, including several Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigators and members of the National Academies of Medicine or Sciences. Our culture centers on upholding scientific excellence, embracing risk, and collaborating across disciplines to achieve an impact greater than the sum of our individual parts. For more information on the LSI: https://www.lsi.umich.edu

The Li lab is interested in understanding the molecular and neural basis underlying respiratory behaviors. We employ a combination of state-of-the-art approaches, including viral circuit tracing, optogenetics, chemogenetics, pharmacology, single cell RNAseq, and functional imaging, to dissect the heterogeneity and functions of neuronal populations in the breathing control circuit, and to identify the mechanism underlying the interactions between respiratory behaviors and the emotional and physiological states. We are looking for highly motivated and ambitious young scientists. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in neuroscience, neurobiology, physiology, biological sciences, or a related field. Applicants with expertise in areas including but not limited to, mouse genetics and behaviors, neural circuit tracing and manipulation, functional imaging, and respiratory physiology, are welcome to apply.

Interested applicants please contact penglium@umich.edu with cover letter describing research experiences and interests, curriculum vitae, and contact information for three letters of reference.
