The UC Davis Department of Neurology is recruiting a Vice Chair of Research at the Associate or Full Professor level in the Regular, In Residence or Clinical X series.

The Vice Chair of Research will provide leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight of the department’s research programs and activities with a focus on the growth and sustainability of the department’s research portfolio.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Vice Chair of Research will collaborate with department and University leadership to insure an innovative and entrepreneurial-oriented culture focused on high-quality clinical, basic, and translational research. The position requires strong leadership and management skills related to developing operational effectiveness, advising on research priorities, strategic planning, funding needs, IRB submission, budgeting, etc.

The Vice Chair of Research will provide guidance and mentorship to all levels of faculty; recruit and retain high potential research faculty; support and expand student involvement in research at all levels in partnership with the Vice Chair of Education; develop strategies to enhance communication and collaboration in partnership with the department Chair; and create an environment that values and supports research programs. This position will serve as a liaison between departmental leadership, research leaders at the School of Medicine, and research leaders across campus to identify best practices and additional opportunities for multidisciplinary interactions.

As an Academic Senate faculty member responsibilities include: clinical service in the area of specialty, as applicable; teaching to medical students, residents, and fellows; conducting and producing scholarly work, clinical/translational research; a record of peer-reviewed publications; success in obtaining extramural funding, as applicable; and University service. All responsibilities will be further determined based on faculty series.

The Department of Neurology at the University of California, Davis conducts basic and clinical research on the nervous system and provides clinical care for people with neurological disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia, epilepsy, Parkinson's and Huntington's diseases, tremor, dystonia, multiple sclerosis, neuromuscular conditions, headache, and sleep disorders. The department’s faculty includes leading neuroscientists, who work to expand our knowledge of nervous system function, as well as neurologists and psychologists who provide diagnosis and treatment for adults and children. The department offers cutting-edge diagnostic approaches, including advanced neuroimaging technologies, and access to trials of new medications and other therapeutic modalities. The department has an active residency program that enrolls 15 residents. The department also sponsors several post-doctoral fellowships in clinical neurophysiology, clinical neuropsychology, epilepsy, movement disorders, and neurodegeneration and aging.
