Job Details
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in Dr. Stephen Maren’s laboratory (http://marenlab.org) in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Texas A&M University (TAMU). The position is supported by NIH-funded projects exploring the neurobiology of emotional learning and memory processes relevant to stressor- and trauma-related disorders. Studies aim to identify neural circuits underlying the contextual regulation of extinction learning in rodent models. Our approach utilizes state-of-the-art methods to selectively target (circuit-specific DREADDs and opsins) and functionally characterize (in vivo electrophysiology, miniscopes, and fiber photometry) neural circuits underlying context-dependent memory. Research associates will receive comprehensive professional development training in scientific publication and communication, grant writing, and laboratory management to facilitate transition of the fellow to an independent scientific career.
Located in the Interdisciplinary Life Sciences Building and centered in the Texas A&M Institute for Neuroscience (TAMIN; http://tamin.tamu.edu), Dr. Maren’s laboratory is highly collaborative and offers many opportunities for interdisciplinary research training. Applicants will also be eligible for supplemental training support under an NIH Neuroscience Development for Advancing the Careers of a Diverse Research Workforce (R25), which is currently pending award to the Texas A&M Institute for Neuroscience (TAMIN; http://tamin.tamu.edu). Eligible applicants will have a PhD in neuroscience, psychology, or related discipline. Salary will be commensurate with research experience and based on the NIH guidelines for postdoctoral trainees and fellows. Interested applicants should send a CV, statement of research interests, and the names of three references to Dr. Maren at: maren@tamu.edu. Texas A&M University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer committed to minorities, women, individuals with disabilities, and veterans; we welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and training histories who will bring novel perspectives to the laboratory and research.
