The Neuroscience Initiative at ASRC seeks a Research Associate to develop a research program in the dopamine control of cortical activity and cognitive functions in mice in collaboration with the Principal Investigator (PI) and his trainees. This position reports to an Associate Professor in the Neuroscience Initiative.
The position is funded until August 2024. Contingent on satisfactory performance and budget availability, this appointment may be extended beyond August 2024. The extension of this appointment would be funded by CUNY Research Foundation which is separate entity from the Graduate Center and CUNY.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Develops a research program in the dopamine control of cortical activity and cognitive functions in mice.
- Implements fiberphotometric techniques to measure the activity of cortical neurons and dopamine release in the cortex in freely behaving mice.
- Creates new behavioral paradigms in mice to measure cognitive functions.
- Performs immunohistochemistry and confocal imaging in mice.
- Conducts live imaging experiments in brain slices.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Doctoral Degree in a related field and demonstrated research ability.
A preferred candidate should have:
- Previous research experience with rodents, preferentially transgenic mice.
- Expertise in cortical functions or in the role of neuromodulators, preferentially dopamine.
- Experience in behavioral neuroscience.
- Experience with immunohistochemistry and confocal microscopy.
- Experience with live imaging and fiberphotometry.
- Ability to work independently, be self-motivated, and positively contribute to laboratory aims and objectives.
- Strong attention to details.
- Reliable and diligent.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Experience working with trainees at the undergraduate and graduate level.
