Computational Neuroscientist Tenure Track Position
Summary of Position
The Department of Biological Sciences in the College of Life Sciences and Agriculture (COLSA) at the University of New Hampshire invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Neuroscience and Behavior. We seek applicants with lived experiences and/or professional service informed by worldviews and/or perspectives about minority group status including race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, religion, and disability, and who are committed to work in and foster a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment at UNH. The position is intended to support our research, teaching, and scholarship in neuroscience and behavior at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Our future faculty member will demonstrate the ability to incorporate their research to our areas of strength in pain, psychiatric disorders, addiction, sensory biology, perception, cognition, neurogenomics, and animal behavior. We are eager to interview applicants who focus on computational and theoretical approaches to model brain function and/or study mechanisms of neuronal function in non-classical model organisms (e.g., fruit fly, worm, lamprey, etc.). We prefer candidates who integrate “-omics” approaches to basic and/or disease-related mechanisms in these organisms. Although the primary appointment for this position is in the Department of Biological Sciences, the research is expected to synergize with investigators located in the Psychology, the Molecular, Cellular, and Biomedical Sciences, and the Communication Sciences and Disorders Departments. In addition, the candidate will provide vibrant, high-quality instruction to our undergraduate and graduate programs, including teaching foundational and advanced courses in biology, neuroscience, and behavior. The successful candidate will maintain a high-impact externally funded research program, train graduate students, mentor undergraduates, perform departmental service, and contribute to UNH’s broader research enterprise.
Additional Job Information
Applicants are expected to strive to broaden participation among members of under-represented groups and demonstrate through their research, teaching, and/or public engagement the richness of diversity in the learning experience and to integrate multicultural approaches and perspectives into instructional methods and research tools. The faculty member will be expected to develop a nationally known extramurally funded research program that would leverage UNH’s state-of-the-art research infrastructure, including the new Spaulding Complex, University Instrumentation Center, Research Computing Center, and Hubbard Center for Genome Studies.
Acceptable Minimum Qualifications
A Ph.D. or equivalent in mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, physics, psychology, neuroscience, or related field. Candidates must have a strong publication record, grantsmanship skills, and instructional experience commensurate with early-stage investigator that can fulfill the academic needs of the Department of Biological Sciences. Candidates must show evidence of the ability to establish cross-disciplinary research partnerships with UNH faculty in other departments, and local, state, and federal agencies.
Salary Information
Salary is complemented by a comprehensive benefits package which includes medical, dental, retirement, tuition, and paid time off.
