A Postdoctoral Scholar position in the areas of Neuroscience & Neuroengineering is available in the laboratory of Dr. Jochen Ditterich at the Center for Neuroscience, University of California, Davis, for working on the NSF-funded project “Identification and Control of Neural Cognitive Systems” in collaboration with the laboratory of Dr. Zhaodan Kong in the College of Engineering. Goal of the project is to develop a framework for model-predictive control of neural circuits that support cognitive functions, to provide a foundation for implantable stimulators for the treatment of cognitive deficits resulting from neurological and psychiatric disorders. Additional information about the project and about Drs. Ditterich and Kong can be found at https://neuroengineering.ucdavis.edu/news/uc-davis-researchers-explore-sci-fi-solutions-neurological-diseases and at https://neuroengineering.ucdavis.edu/news/professors-jochen-ditterich-and-zhaodan-kong-receive-nsf-grant-neural-and-cognitive-systems
The successful candidate will be responsible for performing recording and stimulation experiments in behaving animals, using implanted electrode arrays, and for analyzing the experimental data. The candidate will further be involved in the presentation and publication of the results. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Neuroengineering, or a related discipline and be proficient in spoken and written English. The position requires experience with extracellular recording and/or microstimulation experiments in behaving animals, ideally nonhuman primates, as well as programming experience and familiarity with at least one of the following programming languages: MATLAB, Python, C. Knowledge in the areas of system identification, control theory, and machine learning would be a plus.
Please send application with CV, publication list, contact information of three references, and a summary of research accomplishments to email@example.com. The position will be open until filled. Applicants should be available to start working on the project in late summer or fall of 2021.
