A Research Associate/Postdoctoral fellow position with competitive salary and benefit is available in the Department of Neuroscience, Cell Biology & Anatomy at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) for highly motivated candidates who are interested in sensory biology.  The appointee will join a vibrant and diverse neuroscience community with frequent cross-group interactions including joint lab meetings, journal clubs, and local meetings. Ideal candidates will be self-motivated, curious, enthusiastic, prepared to work in a collaborative environment, and committed to rigorous, reproducible science.

Job Responsibility: We seek a candidate to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying sensory perception and related disorders, including pain and deafness (Wu Z et al, Nature Neuroscience, DOI: 10.1038/nn.4449; Zhao B et al, Neuron, doi: 10.1016/j.neuron.2014.10.041). The duties of the appointee include designs and evaluates experiments under the supervisor’s guidance; analyze data and draft manuscripts for publication; take roles in the lab maintenance with other group members; and assist the supervisor to mentor undergraduate and graduate students.  The appointee will be encouraged to submit their own fellowship and grant applications during the period of training as a part of training and career development. 

Qualifications: The candidate should have a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in neuroscience or related disciplines with a strong background/experience in cellular and molecular biology. Experience in electrophysiology is an asset! A successful candidate is also expected to have good communication skills, work cooperatively on multidisciplinary projects.
