Dr. Mark Baxter of the NB: Morrison Lab at the California National Primate Research Center (CNPRC), is seeking to hire 1 postdoctoral fellows, 100% time for the duration of two years with the possibility of extension. This postdoctoral research position will require a strong background in behavioral neuroscience of cognitive function. Experience with animal models of aging and/or neurodegenerative disease would also be a significant advantage. This NIH-funded project focuses on determining the impact of tau protein pathology on cognition and brain function in a rhesus monkey model. The overall goal of this program is to establish a novel model for tau neuropathology and assessment of cognitive and neuropathological endpoints in a monkey model, to develop more translationally-relevant animal models of Alzheimer's disease and facilitate both understanding of underlying pathological mechanisms as well as development of novel treatments. In addition to behavioral work, biological samples (blood, cerebrospinal fluid) will be collected and examined for biomarkers of inflammation and neurodegeneration, and concurrent neuroimaging studies will be carried out to ascertain whole-brain measures. The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to, and be involved in, all aspects of the research process including study design, protocol development, data collection, sample processing, data analysis, assay work, and writing and publication of research reports and reviews.  Although the primary role of this researcher will be in the cognitive testing aspects of the project, significant opportunities exist for cross-training in analysis of neuroimaging data, fluid biomarkers, and neuroanatomical data. An important aspect of this position will be project management and coordination between the onsite staff and offsite collaborators.

Salary: Commensurate with experience, following NIH guidelines.

Qualifications:  Requires a Ph.D. in neuroscience, psychology, or a related discipline.  The candidate should have considerable experience collecting behavioral data, ideally in non-human primates, as well as experience and interest in the neurobiology of aging and neurodegenerative disease.  The postdoctoral researcher must be able to work independently as well as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Candidates should be willing to apply for independent funding.
