Job Details

A postdoctoral or more senior researcher position is available in the lab of Dr. Tim Buschman in the Princeton Neuroscience Institute and Department of Psychology at Princeton University. The position is to study how the brain controls behavior by guiding the flow of neural activity between brain regions. The research will use a combination of large-scale electrophysiology, mesoscale imaging, and optogenetics to understand the neural mechanisms controlling the flow of information through the brain.

The Buschman lab studies the neural dynamics of complex, cognitive, behaviors. Our research uses cutting-edge recording techniques in monkeys and mice to understand the neural representations that support cognitive control, attention, and working memory. We then build complementary theoretical models to gain insight into the underlying mechanisms. More information about our research can be found on our lab website: http://www.timbuschman.com .

Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D.; those with a background in neuroscience or psychology are particularly encouraged to apply. In addition, we are seeking candidates who have experience working with mesoscale imaging in mice and/or experience using large-scale, multiple-electrode, electrophysiology (in any model system). Strong quantitative and programming skills are also highly-desired. The term of this appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory performance and funding. Applications from members of groups historically under-represented in Neurosciences are encouraged.

Applicants should apply online at https://www.princeton.edu/acad-positions/position/21341 and include a CV, one or two representative publications, and a cover letter with a brief outline of your research interests. Please also include the names and contact information for at least 2 references.

Princeton University is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. These positions are subject to the University’s background check policy.

Company

Understanding behavior at all levels of function, from systems to cells, is one of the great challenges of modern biology. At Princeton University, faculty with research interests in neuroscience can be found in many departments, including Applied Math, Chemistry, Engineering, Molecular Biology, Physics, Philosophy and Psychology. This diversity mirrors the interdisciplinary nature of contemporary neuroscience research and provides a rich set of opportunities for research and training in neuroscience. This web site provides information about the shared and individual interests of neuroscience faculty at Princeton, the opportunities available for training at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and neuroscience-related activities on campus.
