Job Description

A postdoctoral fellow position is available for a project that investigates hypothalamic mechanisms regulating sleep-wake behavior. The selected candidate will use optogenetic, chemogenetic, calcium imaging, and other state-of-art molecular genetic methods to probe sleep-wake circuitry in health and disease. Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is a Harvard-affiliated teaching hospital with a long tradition of excellence in cutting-edge research.  We are located in the Longwood medical area of Boston, the most active biomedical research community in the world.  The BIDMC Department of Neurology performs research on a variety of topics involving neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, neural development, and neurodegeneration.

Expected background

We seek a postdoctoral fellow (Ph.D.) who has a strong background in neurobiology, ideally in sleep and/or circadian rhythms. Experience in mouse stereotaxic surgery, immunohistochemistry/histology, optogenetics, and mouse behavioral phenotyping is desirable. Experience in electrophysiology is a plus. Expected start date: immediate but flexible; The initial appointment will be for two years, renewable annually thereafter. Salary for this position will be as per the NIH guidelines.
