Postdoctoral Fellow

The Yeh Lab in the Department of Molecular and Systems Biology at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth seeks a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to participate in an NIA/NIAAA-funded study to assess prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) as a risk factor for the onset and progression of Alzheimer’s disease and Alzheimer-related dementia (AD/ADRD). The study is part of an ongoing concerted lab effort to uncover the cellular and molecular bases of the short- and long-term effects of PAE on embryonic brain development and across lifespan. It incorporates a transgenic mouse model of AD/ADRD with a mouse model of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) using a combination of biochemical, neuroanatomical, electrophysiological, and behavioral approaches.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will be expected to take a leading role in conducting and coordinating a wide array of experiments and procedures, for example, PAE paradigms, patch clamp electrophysiology in live slice preparations coupled with optogenetics, stereotaxic viral injections and neuropharmacology in subregions of the developing and mature brain, immunohistochemistry, Western blot analysis and behavioral testing. The Fellow will also be expected to acquire, analyze, and organize research data for presentations at lab meetings, national/international scientific conferences and work with the PI on timely publication of the findings in top-tier peer-reviewed neuroscience-related journals.

The broad research scope of the Yeh Lab encourages the Fellow to explore, develop and elaborate on his/her own research interests and directions. Dartmouth offers an outstanding research and learning environment as well as opportunities for collaborations and mentoring undergraduate students. The PI is committed to mentoring postdoctoral fellows to achieve their professional and career aspirations.

Minimum requirements include: (1) PhD in neuroscience or related discipline, (2) working expertise in at least one of the above-mentioned experimental approaches, (3) strong motivation to learning new technologies involved in the other experimental approaches, (4) ability to function independently and as part of a research team, and (5) commitment toward achieving scientific and career goals.

Interested candidates are requested to send cover letter describing research experience, interests and aspirations, CV and contact information of 3 referees to Dr. Hermes H. Yeh at hermes.yeh@dartmouth.edu.

The position is available immediately and will be open until filled, with a flexible preferred start date in 2021.

Dartmouth is highly committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive population of pre- and postdoctoral students, faculty, and staff. We are especially interested in applicants who can work effectively with pre- and postdoctoral students, faculty, and staff from all backgrounds, including but not limited to: racial and ethnic minorities, women, individuals who identify with LGBTQ+ communities, individuals with disabilities, individuals from lower income backgrounds, and/or first-generation college and graduate students. Applicants are expected to advance Dartmouth’s commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion through their research, service, and/or life experiences.
