The Neural Engineering and Translation Labs (NEAT labs) aim to develop an improved understanding of neural circuits deficits in child and adult psychiatric disorders. We apply neural-engineering methods in both animal models and human research to target and repair identified circuit deficits. NEAT Labs are run jointly by Dr. Jyoti Mishra and Dr. Dhakshin Ramanathan. Dr. Mishra's work is focused on developing cognitive neurotechnologies as well as digital mobile tech to serve experimental diagnostics and therapeutics in human neuropsychiatric populations across the lifespan. Dr. Ramanathan's focus is on developing a greater understanding of how to target and modulate relevant neural circuits in animal models of neuropsychiatric disorders.

Please see our website: neatlabs.ucsd.edu for more information on the type of work we do, recent publications, etc.

We are looking for talented post-doctoral candidates interested primarily in human EEG-based neurophysiology with extended interests in animal neurophysiology; design and application of closed-loop methods to target and modulate brain circuits; and a deep passion for developing novel treatments for neuro-psychiatric disorders.

The ideal candidate would be a highly motivated, interdisciplinary scientist with a passion for better understanding underlying circuit deficits in neuropsychiatric disorders in humans and animal models to some extent, and in developing new engineering methods applied to this research. This person will be responsible for 1) developing and optimizing behavioral paradigms and closed-loop interventions relevant for neuromodulation, brain-computer-interface informed neurofeedback, and personalized machine-learning guided mind-body applications; 2) analysis of data from primarily human research (EEG) and also working with a team that analyzes data from animals models (ECoG, LFP and single units). The candidate will be supported to present data at conferences, publish manuscripts, and write grants.

The ideal candidate would have a Ph.D. in one or more of the following - neuroscience, physics, mathematics, electrical engineering, or biomedical engineering with a strong background in electrophysiology. Previous experience in neural data collection and neural time series data analysis is highly desirable, along with any experience with machine learning and coding in MATLAB or Python. In addition, this individual must be able to be a team-player, working collaboratively with others.

We encourage all with an interest to apply.

Salary commensurate with the NIH pay scale.

To apply, please send your CV, contact information for 3 references, and a cover letter including a brief statement of your previous research experience and current scientific/research interests and goals to:
