A postdoctoral position in Dr. Yong Chen’s lab (https://neurology.duke.edu/research/lab-and-translational-research/yong-chen-phd) at Duke University is available to conduct pain- and joint function-related studies. Using molecular and cellular biology, calcium imaging, optogenetics, neuroanatomy, mouse models, and behavior tests, the successful candidate is expected to design and perform experiments to:

1) identify pathological mechanisms underlying craniofacial pain (i.e., trigeminal neuropathic pain, temporomandibular joint pain, and migraine)

2) define the mechanisms of chondrocyte mechanotransduction in health and disease states.

Candidates must have completed the requirements for the PhD degree or equivalent in Neuroscience/Molecular Biology or related fields by the time of beginning the position. Prior experience in pain or joint function-related research and familiarity with animal surgery, pain behavior tests, cell culture/transfection, tissue preparation, transcriptional analysis, and microscope image analysis are highly desirable. The candidate must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, be strongly motivated, and work well in a team setting.

This mentored position functions independently and contributes towards scientific publications, and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in national/international meetings. The pain research environment at Duke University is excellent. The trainee will also have the opportunity to interact directly with exceptional faculty, postdocs, and graduate students to tackle research problems relevant to pain and benefit greatly from a strong scientific, translational, and clinical research environment.

Applicants should email a CV and cover letter detailing scientific experience and interests to Dr. Yong Chen at yong.chen@duke.edu
