The Santhakumar Lab (https://santhakumarlab.ucr.edu/) in the Department of Molecular, Cell, and Systems Biology at the University of California, Riverside is seeking highly motivated postdoctoral scholars to fill 1-2 postdoc positions. The candidate(s) will participate in NIH-funded studies examining circuit plasticity and neuro-immune interactions underlying the disease progression and behavioral co-morbidities in models of experimental brain injury and epilepsy and related behavioral co-morbidities. Our group provides a vibrant research environment with multidisciplinary approaches including patch-clamp physiology in slices, optogenetic manipulations, multi-channel electrophysiology in vitro and in vivo as well as large-scale network modeling to examine microcircuit physiology and plasticity (Yu et al., Cerebral Cortex 2016; Korgaonkar et al., Annals of Neurology 2020).
UCR offers an excellent academic environment with a growing neuroscience research profile and opportunities for collaboration with a multidisciplinary group of faculty. Riverside offers an affordable lifestyle with proximity to large cities and all-year-round sunny Southern California weather.
Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent in neuroscience or related disciplines with research experience in neuronal circuits with experience in slice electrophysiology and/or imaging and multi-channel electrophysiology in awake behaving animals. An interest in quantitative approaches and computational modeling would be an asset. Our lab has a strong record of trainees securing independent funding and fellows will be encouraged to apply for independent funding after their first year in the lab. Salary will follow NIH guidelines. We are especially interested in candidates who are motivated to develop their independent careers as investigators.
Interested applicants should submit CV with publication list, statement of research interests and contact information for 2-3 references via email to vijayas@ucr.edu.
