Postdoctoral position in a Huntington disease –focused laboratory at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in the Center for Neurodegeneration and Experimental Therapeutics to study astrocyte and interneuron interactions in the striatum.

The Center for Neurodegeneration and Experimental Therapeutics in the Department of Neurology has a highly interactive research group. There is also an active Comprehensive Neuroscience Center with a Glial Biology Pillar.

The position requires a candidate with background working with mice with a focus on the nervous system; expertise in slice electrophysiology is required and interest in glial-neuronal interactions is preferred.

These studies will use a transgenic mouse model of Huntington disease. The experiments will examine the interaction of astrocytes and interneurons in the striatum to determine their contribution to Huntington’s disease pathogenesis.

Candidate must able to perform experiments with a substantial degree of independence. Must be able to work with mouse models, perform slice electrophysiology, basic molecular biology, and immunohistochemistry studies.
