We have an open position to join our laboratory as Postdoctoral Fellow in the Varga laboratory.

Our goal is to understand how neural circuits facilitate sleep-dependent memory processing and how these processes are affected by neurodegeneration. Our recent work has focused on studying/manipulating sleep to understand how sleep oscillations relate to memory and molecular brain changes. To achieve our goal, we employ a wide variety of experimental techniques, including behavioral approaches, electrophysiology, and immunohistochemistry.  We are interested in examining how behavior is refined and optimized by the sleep and restful periods following learning. Future work seeks to combine closed-loop optogenetics, optical imaging, and/or circuit tracing to reveal mechanisms of sleep-dependent neural circuit function and dysfunction. We are seeking a highly motivated, highly trained/independent candidate who is interested in defining the underlying circuit mechanisms which coordinate both motor learning and offline changes to those circuit during periods of sleep/rest. Successful candidates will have a PhD, MD, or equivalent in biomedical science, ideally neuroscience or physiology. Candidates with experience using optogenetics and circuit tracing, optical imaging techniques, and/or sleep electrophysiology are particularly encouraged to apply.

Please send a CV, list of three references and a brief cover letter to andrew.varga@mssm.edu.
