Multiple postdoctoral positions are available immediately for self-motivated researchers interested in the mechanisms responsible for adaptations in central autonomic pathways in health and disease. Selected individuals will join the NIH-funded collaborative in vivo and in vitro studies of Dr. Eileen M. Hasser and Dr. David D. Kline that evaluate the plasticity of brainstem neurons and the effects of acute and chronic hypoxia on central regulation of breathing and blood pressure. We are seeking candidates that have experience in or are seeking to learn in vivo rodent measurements, including conscious chronically instrumented animals, in vivo CNS microinjections, single- and multi-unit brainstem neuron or peripheral nerve recording, photometry, as well as manipulation of these neurons and central pathways via chemo- and optogenetics. Ideally the successful applicant will have expertise in one or more of these approaches as well as an intense interest in central autonomic regulation and a desire to broaden their expertise. Candidates must have a PhD, MD or comparable doctoral degree; prior training in neuroscience, cardiovascular and/or respiratory regulation is highly desirable. Salary commensurate with experience and NIH guidelines.
