Postdoctoral Associate in Vertebrate Neuroscience

The University of Florida Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience invites applications for a postdoctoral associate who will explore how motivational state alters the behavior of vertebrate animals and the neural pathways responsible for these effects. This research will employ zebrafish as a model organism and techniques including whole-brain calcium imaging, optogenetics, electrophysiology, and behavioral assays. We seek a driven applicant who has obtained a Ph.D. in biology or a related field. Research experience in experimental neuroscience and complex data analysis are highly valued.

The successful candidate will join the Strother Lab, which focuses on questions at the interface between neurobiology and physiology using fishes as model organisms. The Strother Lab is located at the UF Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience, a research center dedicated to studying fundamental problems in biology and applying that knowledge to issues of human health, natural resources, and the environment. The Whitney Laboratory is situated in St. Augustine, Florida between the Atlantic and the Matanzas River, where researchers enjoy access to a unique biodiversity of plants and animals.

Job Qualifications:

• PhD in Biology or a related field
• Research experience in experimental neurobiology or animal behavior
• Ability to implement complex analysis through programming
• Strong communication and writing skills
• Prior experience working with fishes is preferred but not necessary
