Postdoctoral Research Opportunity at Georgia State University

An NIH-funded post-doctoral position in systems and behavioral neuroscience is immediately available to study sex-differences in the neural control of social and emotional behavior in the joint lab of Dr. Aras Petrulis and Dr. Geert de Vries at Georgia State University (https://www.petrulis-devrieslab.com/). Our lab has expertise in behavioral analysis, neuroanatomy, neuroendocrinology, and modern intersectional approaches to behavioral neuroscience. Located in downtown Atlanta, Georgia State University offers a vibrant, diverse, and highly collaborative neuroscience community with access to many modern scientific tools and extensive collaborations with labs at nearby Emory University, Georgia Institute of Technology, and Morehouse School of Medicine. Atlanta is one of the largest and most diverse metropolitan regions of the US with extensive cultural offerings, mild weather, direct flights to major cities worldwide and close proximity to the Appalachian Mountains and Atlantic and Gulf coasts.

Applicant:

We seek a qualified, productive, and highly motivated researcher with a background in neuroscience and, preferably, experience in neuroendocrinology, behavioral and/or systems neuroscience. Members of under-represented groups are particularly encouraged to apply. Salary is competitive and commensurate with relevant experience.

Project description:

We use viral vectors in combination with genetically modified mice to identify the neural basis of sex-differences in social and emotional behavior. We focus on the role of vasopressin, a neuropeptide that shows sex-differences in expression and function in key social brain structures.
