Morehouse School of Medicine is seeking a post-doctoral fellow to join our team investigating the interactions of RNA binding proteins and their role in neuronal development.  We are interested in understanding how and where in the brain (neurons) RNA binding proteins affect RNA expression.  We also have an interest in developing spatial transcriptome approaches to brain injury models.

The ideal candidate would have experience in multiple molecular/ cellular biology skills including fluorescence microscopy, si-RNA mediated target expression knock down, RIP-Seq, RNA-Seq, single cell RNA-seq/ Spatial RNA-seq, Bioinformatics, primary neuronal and iPS culture.  Further expertise in R or Python based data analysis is desirable.  We are interested in a candidate who is prepared to bring new techniques and approaches into our research and has enthusiasm for learning new approaches as we go. 

The person will have direct day to day responsibility for running the project, which includes design, execution, and analysis of the data acquired. The person is expected to disseminate results at conferences and in journal publications. The candidate should be a team player, capable of working in a team, as well as show initiative and independence.  The candidate should have excellent communication, time-management and leadership skills, and will be expected to work with a degree of independence.  The post doc will be expected to develop their own line of research with potential for future funding. 

The lab is interested in how RMNA binding proteins regulate neuronal development and morphological changes in disease.  In addition to performing the above duties, the candidate will be expected to assist the PI in overseeing laboratory activities, supervising trainees, and writing grants and publications.  

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced degree (PhD or equivalent) in a biology or health science discipline and appropriate research experience.  

Excellence in research as shown by publications in quality journals. 

This position is funded by an NSF grant (2 Yr).
