Earlham College Department of Psychology invites applications for a full-time, Visiting Assistant Professor position with an ability to contribute to neuroscience. The position may be renewable up to three years. Start date is July 1, 2021.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have a teaching load of 5 courses across two semesters. After the first year, the successful candidate will advise students in the neuroscience major. At Earlham, Visiting Faculty have access to the same professional development and summer research funding sources as tenure-track and tenured faculty. Earlham also seeks to cultivate faculty interests and the successful candidate will have opportunities to teach upper-level courses in their area of interest and will be well-prepared for the tenure-track job market at the conclusion of the visiting position.

In the cover letter, candidates should indicate their ability to teach neuroscience courses, such as Brain & Behavior, as well as other core psychology courses such as Introductory Psychology or Research Methods & Statistics. Candidates should also specify additional upper-level courses that they could teach that are not currently offered in the department. We are particularly interested in the breadth that candidates can bring to the psychology department and the neuroscience major. Opportunities to engage in research are available, but not required for visiting positions. These opportunities include paid summer research with undergraduate students and professional development funds. Candidates interested in pursuing research in this position are encouraged to indicate how they would involve undergraduates in research opportunities in the context of a small liberal arts school. In the application materials, candidates should clearly describe their ability to contribute to the advancement of Earlham’s goals to be a diverse, equitable, and inclusive institution. Candidates should provide specific examples of how they have contributed to equitable and inclusive environments, including how they support students from diverse backgrounds and how they use inclusive pedagogical practices.
