Job Description

The School of Neuroscience at Virginia Tech (www.neuroscience.vt.edu) seeks applicants for an Open-Rank Collegiate Faculty position on its main campus in Blacksburg, VA.

A bold and innovative initiative, the Virginia Tech School of Neuroscience was launched six years ago to globally recruit outstanding students interested in obtaining a degree in Neuroscience. Virginia Tech has rapidly become a destination university for the nation's best students interested in the discipline, having grown to over 800 undergraduate students today. Our Neuroscience Ph.D. program, approved in 2020, will launch in Fall 2021. The School offers a unique interdisciplinary curriculum spanning multiple disciplines and colleges. The broad curriculum offers traditional courses in Cellular and Molecular, Cognitive, and Experimental Neuroscience; advanced disciplinary courses including Neuroimmunology, Neurogenetics, Computational Neuroscience, and Neuroendocrinology; and innovative electives courses such as Language and Communication Disorders, Clinical Neuroscience, Neuroeconomics, Neuroscience and Society, and Artificial Intelligence.

The Collegiate Faculty track is a non-tenure track with ranks at the Assistant, Associate, and Full Collegiate Professor levels. This rank offers a clear path to promotion with increasingly longer contracts and promotion criteria clearly defined by the School of Neuroscience, College of Science, and university guidelines. Collegiate faculty participate in all four missions of the School: education, scholarship, service, and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. The successful collegiate faculty candidate will have a primary commitment to the School's instructional mission. The focus is on the delivery of undergraduate education with the potential to contribute to graduate education. A substantial portion of this position will be dedicated to the delivery of core courses in the School’s undergraduate curriculum, including courses such as Introduction to Neuroscience, Cell and Molecular Neuroscience, and Diseases of the Nervous System, as well as the opportunity to develop unique courses based on the applicant's specific areas of expertise. Scholarship will include producing pedagogical innovations, scholarship of teaching and learning, or disciplinary research independently or as part of an existing research team at Virginia Tech.

Applicants for this position must have a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Cellular and Molecular Biology, or a related field and experience teaching in higher education, preferably at the undergraduate level. The search committee will consider applicants across career stages and the rank of the successful candidate will be commensurate with experience.
