The Baker lab and its collaborators are recruiting 1-2 ambitious, successful scientists with doctoral degrees in neuroscience or related fields and are interested in an opportunity to research the molecular basis of cognition and behavioral control.  The primary objective of this research is to identify targets that could support the development of novel therapeutics capable of restoring cognition in substance abuse and other behavioral or thought control disorders. Our current lines of research utilize rodent models to investigate the functional importance of unique glutamatergic mechanisms that enable glia to neuron interactions. These efforts have led to the successful launch of a biotechnology company that is currently conducting Phase 2 studies (Promentis Pharma). We are seeking candidates with skills and expertise that would immediately benefit our ongoing studies as well as those that could broaden our current and future approaches. We are especially interested in candidates with advanced conceptual expertise in one or more areas of neuroscience, evolutionary biology, computational modeling, human cognition, human behavioral disorders, and drug development (including medicinal chemistry). The ideal candidate will also be prepared to contribute due to technical expertise with relevant techniques including rodent behavioral assays, HPLC, FACS, immunohistochemistry, qPCR, cell culture, western blotting, fiber photometry, electrophysiology, and confocal or two-photon microscopy. Expertise with statistical analysis and data management as well as experience writing research papers is required. Because we strive to create an intellectually rich and enjoyable research environment, we encourage interest from applicants seeking a diverse and inclusive workplace.
