We are looking for outstanding postdoctoral candidates to join the Kiskinis Lab of Stem Cell Biology and Neurodegeneration at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, IL. The lab is part of the Ken and Ruth Davee Department of Neurology, which is ranked #5 in the US and boasts a vibrant translation research environment, as well as the Simpson Querrey Institute (SQI) and the Les Turner ALS Center at Northwestern.

The broad objective of our lab is to understand the nature of the degenerative processes that drive neurological disease. We are particularly interested in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), frontotemporal dementia (FTD), and pediatric epilepsy and neurodevelopmental syndromes commonly referred to as developmental epileptic encephalopathies (DEEs). We utilize patient-specific induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and direct reprogramming methods to generate different cell types of the central nervous system (CNS), such as motor neurons, astrocytes, cortical excitatory and inhibitory neurons, in adherent-2D and organoid-3D cultures. We phenotype these patient cells by using a combination of molecular, biochemical and electrophysiological assays. Our goal is to provide novel insights into neuronal development and identify points of targeted and effective therapeutic intervention for epilepsy and ALS/FTD.

Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree with at least 3 years of proven research experience as well as at least one first author publicationExpertise in any of the following approaches: neurobiology, molecular neuroscience, optogenetics, bioinformatics, CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing, molecular biology and stem cell biology are highly favorable.

Feinberg Medical School is superbly located in the downtown Chicago area, a few minutes away from Lake Michigan as well as the Shopping and Restaurants of the Magnificent Mile. Salaries are highly competitive. Northwestern University is an Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action Employer of all protected classes, including veterans and individuals with disabilities. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply. Hiring is contingent upon eligibility to work in the United States.
