Columbia University's Mortimer B. Zuckerman Mind Brain Behavior Institute (the Zuckerman Institute) brings together researchers to explore aspects of mind and brain, through the exchange of ideas and active collaboration. The Zuckerman Institute is located in the Jerome L. Greene Science Center on Columbia's new Manhattanville campus. Situated in the heart of Manhattan, the Zuckerman Institute houses over 50 laboratories employing a broad range of interdisciplinary approaches to transform our understanding of the mind and brain. In this highly collaborative environment, labs work together to gain critical insights how the brain develops, functions, endures and recovers from trauma or disease.

A laboratory within the Zuckerman Institute seeks a postdoctoral scientist to perform research using in vivo extracellular recordings and/or calcium imaging of hippocampal neuron activity in awake behaving mice. The laboratory examines how neural activity in the CA2 region of the hippocampus contributes to social memory and other social behaviors, and how dysfunction in this region contributes to abnormal social behavior in neuropsychiatric disorders. The applicant should ideally have expertise performing in vivo two-photon light microscopic imaging and/or extracellular electrophysiology to track activity of populations of neurons during behavior. Experience in performing intracellular patch clamp recordings in ex vivo brain slices will also be of value. Strong computational skills, including programming in Python or Matlab, as well as superior motivation, drive and demonstrated aptitude for carrying out independent research are further important qualifications.

Minimum Qualifications
