The Ballabh laboratory at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City is seeking highly motivated, successful, and creative individual(s) with a background in neuroscience. The post-doctoral fellow will be participating in translational research on animal models of intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) of prematurity. The ideal candidate should have fewer than four years of postdoctoral experience and a publication record in the field of developmental neurobiology.

The main focus of our laboratory is to study underlying mechanisms and developing novel therapies for prematurity- and IVH-induced brain injuries. We employ a multidisciplinary approach and integrate histology, neuroimaging, genomics, MRI and neurobehavioral studies to answer our research question. Ongoing interests include glutamatergic and GABAergic neurogenesis, blood brain barrier, and post-hemorrhagic hydrocephalus. Our laboratory employs preterm (E29) rabbit model of intraventricular hemorrhage, blood injection model in P3 mouse, and human autopsy samples from premature infants for testing our hypotheses. There is an opportunity to learn new skills, including confocal microscopy, stereology, Two-photon microscopy, diolistic staining, NeuronStudio, Neurolucida, flow-cytometry, neurobehavior, viral gene transfer and more. The post doc will be responsible for performing and supervising molecular and histological studies as well as postnatal care of premature animals. He will participating in Journal club, lab presentations, research design and manuscript writing.
