Northwestern University is accepting applications from postdoctoral trainees working in an area relevant to rehabilitation medicine to be supported by its T32 training program in Pathophysiology and Rehabilitation of Neural Dysfunction (PRND). The position will be open in the summer of 2021. All applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents.

Application Instructions: Interested applicants should send a complete CV, a brief statement of research interests (1 page max), and an even briefer statement of career objectives.  These materials should be compiled into a single PDF file and sent to Laura Haugh-Scheidt <laura.haugh-scheidt@northwestern.edu>.

Program Summary: The Pathophysiology and Rehabilitation of Neural Dysfunction (PRND) training program is directed by Dr. Eric Perreault, PhD, and co-directed by Drs. Lee Miller, PhD and Elliot Roth, MD. Trainees are mentored by 26 highly collaborative scientists working in areas from cellular neurophysiology, to engineering, to clinical medicine; all conduct research with an emphasis on rehabilitation of neural dysfunction. The specific objectives of our program are to train rehabilitation scientists who understand the broad spectrum of problems confronting people with neurologic disabilities and who possess the clinical, scientific and quantitative skills to alleviate the burden on this growing population. Over the life of the PRND program, 47 predoctoral fellows, 35 postdoctoral fellows, and 16 summer interns have been supported financially. Many of these trainees are now established leaders in the field of rehabilitation medicine. One of the investigators is Dr. Daniel Corcos whose lab investigates the mechanisms of action of deep brain stimulation of the subthalamic nucleus in the context of movement and cognition in people with Parkinson’s disease. We use a combination of invasive subthalamic nucleus recordings, noninvasive high density EEG, MR and CT imaging, and behavioral tasks using eye and limb movements.

Requirements include:

1) an interest in the therapeutic mechanisms of deep brain stimulation across motor and cognitive networks,

2) A PhD in Neuroscience, Engineering, Physics, or Data Science, or a related field,

3) Proficiency in Matlab and/or Python,

4) Experience with electrophysiological signal analysis (EEG and LFPs) with a strong quantitative and theoretical skill set, and

5) excellent writing skills. Experience in structural and functional MR imaging is not required but preferred.

Please contact Dr. Daniel Corcos (daniel.corcos@northwestenr.edu) or Dr. Fabian David (Fabian.J.David@northwestern.edu) if you would like further information.
