Patient-Centered Pediatric Research Program Fellowship

The Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Columbus, Ohio, in affiliation with The Ohio State University College of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, has openings for post-doctoral fellows in the Patient-Centered Pediatric Research Program (PC-PReP) starting Autumn 2021. The objective of PC-PReP is to provide advanced training for the highest caliber post-doctoral fellows who will become leaders in community-engaged research with children at high risk for health disparities and poor outcomes. Emphasis is placed on research that includes children with medical complexities and from socially and economically disadvantaged groups.

Current areas of faculty research include, but are not limited to:

·       Neuroimaging and neuropsychology of brain and behavioral development in healthy and pediatric populations

·       Psychosocial outcomes related to pediatric illness (cancer, IBD, congenital heart disease, craniofacial conditions)

·       Adolescent depression and suicide

·       Behavioral economics applied to health outcomes

·       Biological mechanisms of stress and psychopathology

·       Health literacy and self-management in chronic illness

·       Health disparities and equity

·       Fertility and reproductive health in at-risk pediatric populations

·       Pediatric trauma outcomes and injury prevention

·       Innovative interventions to promote resilience in chronic illness

·       Nutrition, physical activity, and other health behaviors and developmental and behavioral outcomes

·       Palliative care and bereavement

Fellows will receive training in research methods, grant writing, and academic career development. They will also develop and conduct at least one research project with a faculty mentor leading to publications, national presentations, and an external funding proposal. We are seeking doctoral level candidates (e.g., PhD, MD) with pediatric research interests aligned with one or more of the program faculty. Participating faculty are from the Center for Biobehavioral Health, Center for Injury Research and Policy, and Center for Innovation in Pediatric Practice. Nationwide Children’s Hospital, its Primary Care Network, and its specialty clinics provide the majority of pediatric care and training opportunities in Central Ohio and serve a population area of 3 million. Our close working relationship with the Ohio State University allows for expanded training and collaboration beyond the College of Medicine with the Colleges of Public Health, Business, Nursing, Psychology Dept, and others. All faculty have academic appointments with Ohio State University.

Candidates must have obtained their doctoral degree by the start date. All fellowships are assumed to be 2 years in duration. Salary is commensurate with NIH guidelines, and fellows are classified as benefits-eligible employees.
