Scripps Research is currently seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to join the Molecular Medicine Department and Neuroscience Translational Center of its La Jolla, California facility.
The selected candidate will plan and conduct novel research projects that involve a significant amount of cell culture, including human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs). The successful candidate will assist in designing experiments, perform thorough data analyses and interpretation of results, and operate sophisticated scientific lab equipment, including confocal microscope and/or patch-clamp electrophysiology and calcium imaging. Molecular biology and chemical biology knowledge and techniques will be indispensable. The individual will pursue research projects solely and in collaboration with other lab members and supervise or provide work direction and training to other lab members. The individual will also write-up results for publication and attend scientific meetings to present results. The specific research projects will involve investigations of neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental diseases using hiPSC, cerebral organoid, and rodent model systems.
Location: La Jolla, California
Qualifications: Requires a Ph.D., M.D. (with research experience) or equivalent in a relevant scientific discipline. Ideally, the candidate should have significant experience in human cell culture techniques, including cerebral organoids, experience with molecular biology techniques, chemical biology, immunocytochemistry and familiarity with confocal microscopy. Additional preferred qualifications are a background in immunology, protein S-nitrosylation and electrophysiology. Two postdoc positions are contemplated so experience in one of these areas will be considered.
Salary commensurate with NIH guidelines and California labor laws.
