A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the Department of Pharmacology and Neuroscience at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) for a highly-motivated scientist to study brain mechanisms of neuroplasticity in pain and related neuropsychiatric disorders.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. (in an area relevant to the project) and/or M.D. degree, and will be expected to contribute actively and effectively to ongoing neuroscience research programs centered on limbic brain functions and dysfunctions with the opportunity to develop their own project. Expertise in electrophysiology and/or optical imaging/recording techniques is highly desired. Willingness to participate in preclinical behavioral studies is expected. First author publications in peer reviewed journals and knowledge of the neuroscience literature are required. Strong writing and communication skills and an ability to work independently are essential.
The selected candidate will join a well-funded research program focused on systems, synaptic and cellular mechanisms of brain plasticity in pain and comorbid disorders. A current focus is on opioid function in the amygdala. The postdoctoral position provides an exciting opportunity for interdisciplinary collaborations multidisciplinary training in areas that include neurodegenerative diseases and a variety of electrophysiological techniques, multiphoton imaging, optogenetics, chemogenetics, gene transfer strategies, immunohistochemistry and behavioral assays.
