Job Details

Our lab is focused on the study of neural circuits and neuroendocrine signaling, with the goal of deciphering mechanisms underlying the bi-directional communication between the brain and the gut, an area with great potential for innovation and discovery. We have utilized the C. elegans model system for its powerful molecular genetics and pathway discoveryand unraveled a novel brain-to-gut pathway with profound and unexpected orthology in mammals, which we now wish to study in mouse models we have recently developed. To this end, we have also begun leveraging organoid technology.

We are seeking a motivated postdoctoral fellow to spearhead projects that will investigate the molecular and cellular basis for gut signaling, and its impact on whole-body metabolism and communication with intrinsic and extrinsic neural innervation. Our research program is uniquely juxtaposed at the intersection of molecular neuroscience and physiology, and offers an exciting new perspective on the integrative biology of gut-brain communication.

Required: Ph.D. in genetics, neuroscience, biochemistry, physiology or related disciplines. The candidate should have a strong background in molecular genetics and studies of in vivo metabolism, and a conceptual understanding of modern molecular neuroscience and behavior. First-author publications (or manuscripts in press) are a must, along with the interest and capacity to obtain postdoctoral fellowships.  Previous experience with mouse biology and genetics is essential.  The candidate must be driven, possess a sense of scientific curiosity, and enjoy working in a team-oriented and stimulating environment. We welcome candidates from diverse scientific and personal backgrounds with the belief that diversity generates creativity.

The Scripps Research Institute is one of the world’s leading biomedical research institutes, and offers outstanding scientific opportunities for collaborations with laboratories engaged in cutting-edge science and novel technologies.

Please email your CV, a brief statement of research interests and the names of 2-3 supervisors and mentors who can be contacted for references.
