The Kimbrough Lab (www.kimbroughlab.com) is looking for a postdoctoral research associate interested in substance use disorders, mental health, and neurodegenerative diseases. Funding is confirmed for three years, but continuation of the appointment beyond the first year will be dependent on satisfactory performance. The Kimbrough Lab is located at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana and is housed in the Department of Basic Medical Sciences, which is part of the College of Veterinary Medicine.
The postdoctoral researcher will conduct behavioral experiments assessing the effects of substance use on behavioral outcomes and brain function. Studies will involve chemogenetic or pharmacological manipulation in mouse models of substance use disorder. The postdoctoral researcher will perform whole-brain clearing techniques (e.g., iDISCO) and imaging of cleared brains.
Previous experience with rodent behavior, preclinical behavioral models of substance use disorder, stereotaxic surgery, intravenous surgery, histology, and proficiency in python/R are beneficial, but are not required.
The postdoctoral researcher will be expected to contribute to a positive work environment within the lab. In addition, the postdoctoral researcher will be expected to contribute input to experimental design, prepare and analyze data, write and publish manuscripts, and present findings at conferences.
Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. degree in Neuroscience, Pharmacology, Behavioral Psychology or other relevant topics.
The successful applicant will be encouraged and expected to apply for extramural funding during their time in the laboratory, however funding is available for 3 years and possibly beyond on a year to year renewal basis. The expected start date is between January-June of 2021. The position will remain open until filled. Please indicate if you are a US Citizen or permanent resident.
