An NIH-funded postdoctoral researcher position is available in the Shew Lab starting in January 2021 (or perhaps later depending on public health conditions) for at least two years duration.  The lab (woodrowshew.com) takes pride in combining experiments, data analytics, and computational modeling to advance understanding of systems neuroscience, usually focused on large networks of cortical neurons.  The experiments typically combine chronic high-density electrode arrays with precision measurements of behavior in awake rats and mice. The data analysis and computational modeling is primarily at the high-dimensional network level.  A successful candidate is expected to be highly motivated in the lab and to be involved with paper writing and mentoring students.

In the Shew Lab, we value diversity of opinions, backgrounds, ethnicity, and gender.  We strongly encourage applicants who share these values and, better yet, come from an under-represented background in neuroscience research.

Outside the lab, there is a diverse and rapidly growing systems neuroscience community at U Arkansas (brainresearch.uark.edu).  Outside the university, Fayetteville and Northwest Arkansas are great places to live (consistently ranked in the top 5 places to live in the US), especially if you enjoy the outdoors.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in neuroscience or a related field conferred by the time of appointment
  • Demonstrated experience with computer programming

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience with awake rodent systems neuroscience research
  • Proficiency with analyzing high-dimensional data using Matlab or Python
  • Proficiency with network-level computational modeling of neural systems.

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

If you're ambitious and this kind of research appeals to you and you have skills that you think would make you a good fit for this environment, please apply at https://uasys.wd5.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/UASYS/job/Fayetteville/Postdoctoral-Fellow-in-Computational-Neuroscience_R0000774 with your CV, a research statement, and contact information for 3 references.
