Two postdoctoral positions are available in the laboratory of Dr. Vittorio Gallo at the Center for Neuroscience Research (CNR) of Children’s National Hospital in Washington D.C. The CNR is a very collegial and highly interactive environment with a number of research core facilities available to all researchers, including Cell and Tissue Microscopy, Genomics and Bioinformatics and Animal Behavior. The Gallo lab studies neural progenitor cell development, mechanisms of glial development and regeneration, and cell repair after injury. Postdoc recruits will join a collegial, collaborative and highly productive team studying development and function/dysfunction of the CNS, with strengths in genetic mouse models of developmental disorders, neural development, molecular and cellular manipulation of the developing brain, transcriptomics and bioinformatics, electrophysiology and animal behavior. Methods to be used include histology and immunohistochemistry in brain slices and in cultured cells, RNAseq and bioinformatics, single cell analysis, patch-clamp electrophysiology, Ca2+-imaging, optogenetics, and rodent behavioral tests.

Qualifications:

The qualified candidate should have received a Ph.D. in Neuroscience or Physiology, or related field in the basic sciences in order to apply - or be currently pursuing a degree and will reach completion by the appointment start date.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in cell and developmental neuroscience
  • Experience in genetics and bioinformatics
  • Experience in electrophysiology (Whole Cell Patch-Clamp and electrical stimulation/recording)
  • Experience in genetic and pharmacological manipulation of neural cells
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and methods
