Position Description

We invite applications for one Edson Foundation Postdoctoral Research Scholar in the ASU-Banner Neurodegenerative Disease Research Center (NDRC) at Arizona State University. The goal of the Edson foundation is to fund research that will find new discoveries and solutions to better the quality of life for people affected by neurodegenerative diseases. 

As a prestigious Edson Postdoctoral Research Scholar, you will have a primary mentor in the NDRC, but will have the opportunity to collaborate with other investigators. The NDRC prides itself on producing high impactful research through collaborations. The selected candidate will work on projects related to identifying novel therapeutic targets in Alzheimer’s disease. This will include both human post-mortem tissue assays and live rodent work.  Additionally, the fellow will have the opportunity to work on identifying environmental risk factors that are associated with Alzheimer’s disease.

We began reviewing applications January 27, 2020 and will continue to review incoming applications on a biweekly basis until the position is filled.

Essential Duties:

  • Transgenic rodent handling including; behavioral assessment, drug delivery and collection of various tissue at death.
  • Use of microscopy, unbiased stereology, confocal imaging, image analysis, and molecular biology methods.
  • Data analyses, manuscript preparation, and oral presentations
  • Assist with the preparation (brainstorming) and writing of grant proposals
  • Coordinate among team members, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and actively participate in journal clubs and lab meetings

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Applicants must have a Ph.D. by Dec 31st, 2020 in Behavior and/or molecular neuroscience, neurobiology, and/or in a biomedical field to be considered.  Applicants that received their PhD before Dec 31st, 2017 are not eligible to apply.

Desired Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate must be highly motivated and have prior experience in neurobiology and neuroanatomy, with a strong focus in Neurodegenerative Diseases.
  • Candidates must have a strong background in wet lab techniques such as immunohistochemistry, immunoblots, tissue homogenization and qPCR.
  • Candidates must also possess a strong background in biostatistics; having bioinformatics expertise is a plus.
  • The candidate will be motivated to learn skills that implement a multidisciplinary approach, from genetic to behavioral level. 
  • The candidate must be a team player, as collaborations are a key driver to produce impactful research at the NDRC.

The Biodesign institute is home to the ASU-Banner Neurodegenerative Disease Research Center (NDRC).
