Assistant Professor – Psychology

The Department of Psychology and the Developmental and Brain Sciences (DBS) Program of the University of Massachusetts Boston is recruiting for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Behavioral Neuroscience (start date: 9/1/2021). Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. in Psychology or Neuroscience (or related field) and are expected to have experience teaching and mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students, an excellent record of research productivity, and the promise of external funding. We are actively seeking to increase representation of faculty from historically underrepresented groups in neurosciences and to create a more inclusive and equitable department and institution. We especially encourage applicants who are members of historically underrepresented groups to apply.

In terms of research area, we are particularly interested in candidates who specialize in developmentally oriented animal models of behavior, which complement our existing strengths in Cognition and Perception, Developmental Psychology, Behavioral Neuroendocrinology, Psychopharmacology, and Epigenetics. However, the research area is open, and could include cellular and molecular mechanisms, neurodevelopmental disorders, neuroimmunology, and neuroplasticity. Successful candidates should have the appropriate expertise to teach core undergraduate courses (e.g., Learning and Memory, Behavioral Neuroscience, Research Methods, Statistics), advanced courses in their specialty, and graduate courses in the Developmental and Brain Sciences Program. This is the only neuroscience PhD program at a public University in the Boston area. Our neuroscience labs are housed in the new Integrated Sciences Building, part of our campus on the Columbia Point peninsula, offering wonderful views of the city and Boston Harbor.
