A postdoc position is available in the Garcia lab in the Department of Biology at Drexel University to work on a recently funded project on the role of astrocytes in experience-dependent plasticity. Our research program is focused on neuron-astrocyte interactions with an emphasis on understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying how these interactions shape the organization of cells and synapses in health and disease. We use a combination of molecular genetics and imaging approaches, including in vivo imaging by 2 photon microscopy in mice, to address a broad range of questions surrounding astrocyte biology.
We are seeking highly motivated, independent and creative thinkers who are interested in astrocyte biology and astrocyte-neuron interactions. The successful candidate will have a PhD in Neuroscience or related discipline, and a history of publishing in peer-reviewed journals. Candidates with a background and experience with transgenic mouse models and light microscopy are preferred. Experience with 2 photon microscopy is desirable, but not required. This individual will be expected to lead a project focused on molecular mechanisms mediating astrocyte-neuron interactions that facilitate activity-dependent plasticity. For more information about our lab, please visit our website garcia-lab.org.
Salary is commensurate with NIH guidelines. The earliest start date for this project is 12/2020.
